Update on the Floors

The floors are almost finished.  Hopefully they will do the final bit of work early next week.  I took some pictures to show how different it looks.

The flooring upstairs is antique heart pine.  I got a good shot of the wood grain.

Here are some pictures of our staircase, which I think is pretty cool looking.  In the last picture you can see the transition to the Oak flooring on the main level.

Christmas Cookies 2010: Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

I invited my friend, Kim, over to help make a mess in my new kitchen. Even with limited time for baking, I promised myself that I would bake at least 2 different kinds of holiday cookies. The decorated sugar cookies are a must. This year, I was able to get 4 new copper cookie cutters: a very cute fat reindeer, an evergreen tree, a snowflake, and a stocking. Even if using the royal icing is a project, I love how these turn out. The next cookie will be a new Christmas tradition...more details to come.

Project 1.5: Turn 2 Closets into 1

The smallest bedroom had two small closets.  We decided to make them into one.  Since the hardwood floors go into the closet, we had to get them done before we had the wood refinished.  Demolition was fun.   Sometime soon, I'll have to frame it up and do some drywall work.

Project 1: Remove Carpet from 2nd Floor Bedrooms

Call us crazy, but we prefer the 90-year-old hardwood floors to the dirty 10-year-old carpet.  So, we are removing the carpet from two bedrooms and a hallway closet and having the floors refinished to match the rest of the upstairs.  Removing the carpet wasn't bad, but pulling up the 1,000 staples was.  Soon we'll have the floors sanded and stained.  More pictures to follow.

Closing Day!

Here we are outside our house on closing day, November 22, 2010.  Let the renovations begin.
